Principle and Characteristic
of Spray Dryer

Among the hot air receiving heat consecutive drying devices, spray dryer is a device that enables to immediately create dried product in a granule or powder form from liquid, and it is different from air current drying or band dryers. Concentrated liquid is atomized by the nozzle within the dryer body (spray type) or the high-speed rotating disk (centrifugal type), and while increasing the surface area of each unit volume and blowing hot air consecutively, it is dried instantly and converted into a powder form. Therefore, change of properties is extremely small even for heat-sensitive materials, and many processes such as concentration, filtration, comminution, classification, and drying can be omitted at once. The dried product has a sub-globular shape and is in a hollow state. Therefore, it provides a superior flow property and is highly soluble in water for food products. Also, since it is easily collapsed for electronic material/powder metallurgy/fine ceramic materials, mold goods with high density can be obtained.
